Dr. Elizabeth T. Urgel is an educator, a researcher, and a writer. As a faculty consultant of the Department of Asia Pacific Studies of the UA&P College of Arts and Sciences where she was Chair for nine years, she teaches Southeast Asian Studies and Asia Pacific Societies. She is currently a part-time Senior Lecturer at the Political Economy Program of the UA&P School of Social Sciences, Law, and Governance. As a Visiting Professor at the University of Navarre in Spain, she lectured on Leadership and Economic Development. She was a part-time Senior Lecturer on international relations at the University of the Philippines (UP) Asian Center. 

Prior to joining UA&P, Dr. Urgel was a University Researcher at UP Diliman, where her survey of the socioeconomic landscapes of Visayas and Mindanao was a semi-finalist in a search for UP outstanding research. From UP she likewise earned her PhD in Philippine Studies and MA in Asian Studies. Her master’s thesis on the ASEAN Chambers of Commerce and Industry won the Outstanding Thesis Award for External Relations from the UP System Graduate School. She went to Ateneo de Naga and University of St. Anthony for her AB English and Political Science degrees. 

Her recently concluded research, funded by the Center for Research and Communication Foundation, Inc. (CRCFI), focused on the stakeholders’ cooperation in the furniture industry and weaving industry in the UNESCO Creative Cities of Cebu City and Baguio City, respectively.
