Veronica Isla is currently the Secretary of the Operations Committee of the School of Communication where she has been teaching courses across its programs since 2006. Aside from performing her role as the first Media and Entertainment Management (MEM) Program Director since 2015, she has also been playing an active role in past and present academic committees formed to study various university policies and programs.

She holds two master’s degrees, a Master of Arts in Communication from the Ateneo de Manila University and a Master of Arts in Values Education from UA&P. Her doctoral dissertation entitled “Representation of the Urban Poor in Lino Brocka Films” received the Best Dissertation Award and the Gloria Feliciano Award from the College of Mass Communication of UP Diliman. Based on this earlier work, she wrote The Face of Urban Poverty in the Cinema of Brocka which was published by the U.P. Press in 2020.

Because of her strong Communication and Humanities background, she has been doing research in the fields of media and the visual arts, especially on topics where these two fields intersect. Her research interests include media and information literacy, film and television studies, media and entertainment industry, consumption studies, and technology ethics. Her co-authoring Media and Information Literacy (for senior high school), published by Oxford University Press, her publications in international journals, and participation in international conferences affirm her continuing interest and growing expertise in these areas.
