Inspired by Oxford University\u2019s Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) course, our Political Economy Program (PEP) equips students with the knowledge and analytical skills needed for understanding increasingly complex social realities using multiple perspectives from politics, economics, history, philosophy and sociology, and always aware of their local and global contexts.<\/p>\n

Through the years, we have produced excellent graduates who are now well-placed in government, civil society, and the private sector in the country and in the international community, making substantial contributions for the good of society.<\/p>\n

UA&P is the first and only university in the Philippines offering a Masters in Political Economy (MPE).<\/p>\n

MPE prepares graduates to pursue professional work in the fields of politics and governance, economics, diplomacy and foreign service, development work and advocacies, business, media communications, research, and academe.<\/p>\n

College graduates and professionals may apply.<\/p>\n

Classes are conducted on weekday evenings (6:00-9:00 pm) and on Saturdays.<\/p>\n

Like all UA&P students, students in the MPE \u2013 Evening Program are provided with one-on-one personal and professional\u00a0<\/span>mentoring<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The program is accredited under the K to 12 transition program of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), meaning that faculty and non-teaching staff of universities and colleges can pursue the program under CHED scholarship. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Coursework.<\/strong>\u00a0Students are encouraged to take as many subjects for their coursework every semester as their schedule permits and as are available, provided they do not exceed the maximum load of twelve (12) units per semester. Coursework can be taken in any order.<\/p>\n

Comprehensive exam<\/strong>. Students must finish all coursework before they can be allowed to take the comprehensive examination.<\/p>\n

Internship\/Policy Paper.<\/strong>\u00a0Working students will not be required to do internship, on condition that they have had at least two (2) years\u2019 work experience. They must, however, submit a policy paper. Non-working students, and those who lack work experience, will be required to do internship.<\/p>\n

Maximum Residency.<\/strong>\u00a0Maximum residency is four (4) years, inclusive of leaves of absence. Extensions will only be allowed for meritorious reasons and upon application with the Dean.<\/p>\n

Degree.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>Students who complete all their requirements will receive a degree of Masters in Political Economy.<\/p>\n

Prerequisites<\/strong>.\u00a0Applicants must preferably have an undergraduate degree in political economy, political science or economics.\u00a0 Students with degrees from other disciplines may be admitted subject to an evaluation of their transcript.\u00a0 They may be required to take prerequisite undergraduate courses.<\/p>\n

Qualifications<\/strong>. Applicants must have a general weighted average (GWA) of at least 2.0 in their undergraduate course.\u00a0 Applicants with GWA below 2.0 but not lower than 2.25\u00a0 may only be admitted on probation.<\/p>\n

Application Procedure<\/strong>.\u00a0Submit two (2) copies of the duly accomplished\u00a0Application Form<\/a>\u00a0to the School of Law and Governance (7th Floor APEC Communications Building) together with one (1) copy of the following attachments:<\/p>\n
